For several weeks now, I’ve wanted to get some pictures of the snow crystal formations alongside the road in my area.

Through the winter, as the plows clear the roads, walls of snow build up along the shoulders.

With time, the snow melts and then refreezes, forming beautiful glass-like shapes.

Unfortunately, by the time I remembered to take my camera on my walk, I was too late! A light snow the night before had covered the crystalline formations.

With its new blanket, the ice look fuzzy rather than glass-like. Oh well. I took some shots anyway.

As I’m posting this, winter is losing its grip. The temperatures rose rapidly over the past couple of days, melting the formations before they had time to freeze again.

That means I won’t get another chance to photograph any glass-like structures this year.

But that’s fine with me. I’m more than ready for spring!

At first glance, this little piece of wood looked like a lizard looking at me!

Storm got a little frosty herself!

  1. What lovely photos!

I think there’s something interesting about these transitional times of the year. It can be like experiencing both seasons at once some days.

Thanks so much, Lydia! Agreed–we’re having some of those days now. A little winter, a little spring. Feels energetic and hopeful. :O)
